Prof. Oleg Tretiakov, from the School of Physics at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney
On Sept. 22, 2023 MagTop was visited by Prof. Oleg Tretiakov, from the School of Physics at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney, where he heads the Topological Spintronics and Quantum Materials research group. His research interests are centered on skyrmions and other topological solitons in magnetic systems; spin-orbit torques; topological antiferromagnetic spintronics, including noncollinear antiferromagnets; topological thermoelectrics; as well as strongly correlated low-dimensional systems with spin-orbit interaction. Prof. Tretiakov showcased his recent research accomplishments in utilising magnetic topological defects for designing novel devices and functionalities in a seminar entitled: Skyrmions and Beyond in Ferromagnetic Topological Materials and, Antiferromagnets
After the seminar, Prof. Tretiakov had discussions withseveral MagTop members (Prof. Tomasz Dietl, Prof. Mircea Trif, and Dr. Alex Kazakov), which will hopefully develop in fruitful future collaborations.
Overall, MagTop benefited greatly from Prof. Tretiakov visit, in particular because it provided first-hand examples on how to utilise topology to design actual devices for future applications, a core quest on the MagTop agenda and beyond.
